2K Recruits Popular Battle Royale Developer to Revitalize Challenged Action Game Ambitious Title

2K Games has appointed Ben Brinkman from Respawn Entertainment to lead the development team at their internal studio, which is currently working on the forthcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as Project Ethos.

Management Change Follows Poor Reception

The new appointee takes on the leadership position at 31st Union following the departure of previous head Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' disappointing initial reveal last fall.

Recently, 2K president a key figure updated team members about this strategic move through an official communication, which stressed that early feedback sessions had indicated the requirement for a more defined game identity.

The president stated that the team is now refining Project Ethos with a renewed vision, aiming to better meet gamer demands.

Trend of Key Hires

This announcement mirrors a comparable step taken by 2K Games in August, when they brought on an industry veteran from the Diablo team to work on the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.

Here is the complete content from Ismailer's communication:

Team—

I understand you all just completed your town hall - I hope you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the positive developments. Previously I sent you all a message, I stated the following: “I believe in this crew. You all are some of the most motivated and creative designers we have had the opportunity to partner with - and we’re looking forward for that collaboration to endure.”

Through your commitment and adaptability, especially over the past twelve months, you repeatedly show that.

The gamer responses from last fall’s Project ETHOS playtest was enlightening. It affirmed the promise of a action-packed game but made clear we still had improvements to make. It highlighted the need for a more distinct vision.

It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve come. You embraced the input to mind and reimagined Project ETHOS with a revitalized vision - one that’s poised to achieve its ambition to our audience.

The belief in Project ETHOS grows every day. To boost the remarkable progress you’ve made, I’m excited to announce Ben Brinkman as the latest Lead of 31st Union. After a period of talks, he starts with us on the specified date.

His leadership and experience in the competitive gaming field is considerable, having devoted the last 15 years developing and leading some of the most well-known series in gaming, including the acclaimed shooter, and more recently, the battle royale hit.

I invite you all in greeting Ben next week. We are all eager to continue seeing the progress of Project ETHOS in the weeks to ahead.

David

Game Information and Concept

Project Ethos was revealed in last year in conjunction with a public demo. Then, the developers presented the title as a "no-cost, 3rd-person roguelike hero shooter and an exciting step forward on the style."

"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Build your hero in live gameplay to suit your personal playstyle," the game's pitch reads. "Face the competition with unique powers, challenges, and tests that evolve every match. Will you withdraw carefully with your hard-earned loot? Or go big, put it on the line, and hope your group can earn top ranking? The choice is in your hands."

Project Ethos has not yet received an confirmed debut schedule or consoles, but fans can anticipate more updates as development continues.
