Iran is ready to resume atomic talks with Washington on condition that it is treated with "respect" and "respect", Tehran's top diplomat has stated.

Subsequently, European countries used their right to reinstate international penalties, but Iran insists they have not had a major impact.

Magic Solution Suggested

Iranian officials stated they felt they had reached a "magic solution" to the uranium processing matter in previous talks, when it was agreed an local partnership with American involvement could enrich uranium. Both sides would have been able to assert triumph since local refinement would have remained and the US could be assured that Iran's nuclear programme was entirely non-military.

It had not been decided in the talks that US nuclear scientists could function on Iranian soil, but that was a logical implication of the consortium proposal. Araghchi said: "It was not Iran that had abandoned dialogue; it was the United States and the European states that had consistently sought to impose their will during the negotiations. Negotiations can still be active and stays the final answer to resolve disputes, but its standards, guidelines and principles must be adhered to."

"In case they address to the citizens of Tehran with the approach of dignity and respect, they will get a reply in the equivalent approach."
