🔗 Share this article Lando Norris Leads Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session The British driver has outscored his teammate at each of the past five grands prix. The McLaren driver narrowly beat team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the final moments of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix. The British racer, who took the points lead from his teammate by a single point after winning in Mexico City recently, beat the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s. Before then, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before the sprint shootout scheduled for the evening session. Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the championship fight, sitting 36 points behind behind Norris, ended up in 17th position as his team followed a different programme. Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to have an incident, though minor, when he rotated at Turn Four early in the session. Tsunoda slid over the exit kerbs before rotating through the gravel trap, and was fortunate to get away with just a minor contact of the fence. Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the final moments of the practice, turning around through the quick descending corner before the last turn on to the start-finish straight. The seven-time champion ended the session in 19th place, one place behind team-mate Charles Leclerc. Norris and Piastri were well clear of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber P3, over half a second slower than Piastri's best. Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' George Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
