It has been 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story film was released, establishing the animation giant as a leading film company and introducing audiences to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a glimpse into the storyline but leaving viewers wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang

In the teaser reveals the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a latest toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser avoids is what the sheriff is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a fair and helping prize toys locate loving owners.

Surely, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before setting off for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. The clip displays the badge pinned to her outfit.

It is hoped she is still the driving force among the group.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
